Garden Design Process

Depending upon your location there will be a no obligation site visit/consultancy charge. This is to cover my time and travelling expenses, if you do commission me to complete the design then this fee is offset from the design fees. This initial consultation enables me to establish needs, functions and requirements, all the ingredients for me to create your ideal perfect garden. This is an opportunity for me to assess your likes, dislikes and how much time you can realistically spend tending to your garden, generally how you would like your outdoor space to work.

Once the design brief and quotation have been accepted (and you have confirmed in writing) a site survey is completed, this involves measuring, photographing and analysing the site.

A 50% deposit is required once the Design Brief and Quotation have been accepted and the full balance is due once the final plan has been completed An initial draft (Functional Plan) is produced, this is where alterations can be made. This plan sets out broad proposals for the site and situation and includes rough sketches and perspective drawings to show suggested design elements within the garden.

Then you can choose from either a Concept Plan where it contains the layout of the garden. Some plants are included in the plan but the focus is primarily placed on the overall effect and structure of the garden rather than intricate details. Or you may opt for an Outline Plan which includes full planting detail, location of each individual plant, height, width, spread and seasonal interest within the garden. Both plans are drawn to a high standard, are to scale and can include specific features such as pergolas, terraces, ponds etc.

On rare occasions amendments need to be made, these are often due to unforeseen circumstances. Minor changes will be not be charged, however an extra charge will need to be made for major changes. An indication of cost will be supplied and agreed beforehand.
